Public boat licence exams are held at the Wallarah Bay Recreation Club
40 Wallarah Road Gorokan on the 3rd Monday of the month starting at 6:00 pm. You will need to have read through the 'NSW Maritime Boating Handbook' prior to sitting the test.

You can view the NSW Boating Handbook on the web or get a copy from our 'Patrol Base' any weekend.

Marine Radio Operator

The Radio Operators Certificate of Proficiency (MROCP) is the core qualification to operate a marine radio station both on land and on most non-commercial vessels. 

Course Information:
Normally 6 nights and it also needs about a total of 12 hours self-study during the course. 

Notes:
The exam is usually on the last evening of the course.  To sit the exam you will need a passport photo (for your licence) and bring in $48.20, which is the amount we are charged by the 'Office of Maritime Communications' for the exam.

This package provides competency against the Units of Competence (UoC) as detailed  below. These units provide the foundation for recognised Certificates in Rescue as determined by the NSW State Rescue Board (SRB) and are nationally recognised
under the Australian Quality Training Framework (AQTF).

TDMME501A
Transmit and receive information by marine radio or telephone
Operate VHF & HF Radio equipment to transmit & receive messages.
Maintain and fault-find radio equipment.
Access search and rescue radio facilities.
Deploy and operate an EPIRB and a SART.


SRBWEA001B
Obtain, relay & interpret weather information & Relay weather information.
Maintain records of weather information and forecasts.


SRBNAV001B
Elementary navigation, Use a navigation chart, Navigation lights.
Time / speed / distance calculations, Obtain tidal information.


SRBOPS001A
Work in a Marine SARCC, Collect, maintain and display information
Disseminate information, Close and Operations Centre

6.   Marine Radio Operators Certificate of Proficiency (MROCP)

8.   Standard Marine Communication

 

Must hold a current Senior first Aid certificate

 
The MROCP has 12 hours of lectures plus homework . There’s a charge of $48.20 which goes to the 'Office of Maritime Communications' for the exam & licence.
